Ashley Turner

Cultivation Society

The average Ugandan village farmer makes just $1-3 per day. However, through sustainable cash crop farming, they have the potential to earn $25+ dollars a day to provide for their families and communities.

With this in mind, Ashley Turner (one half of photography and direction duo Hazel & Pine) founded Farmhouse Project, an initiative – beginning with a single chicken coop – that gave a sustainable income source to an Ugandan family caring for 30 adopted children. That income allowed the family to send all 30 children to school.

Farmhouse Project sparked a community-wide impact effort that's since evolved into Cultivation Society - a farmer's association providing innovative training programs on crop plantation to raise incomes, educational opportunities and quality of life for the Ugandan village and beyond.
