According to Jeff Wilson, “Housing's f***ked.” To that end he's co-founded Kasita, which builds 352-square-foot smart homes that look more like a pieces of consumer technology than buildings. His clever multifunctional design and deeply integrated smart home technology make the limited space so efficient it feels perfectly suited to each user. By manufacturing homes, rather than building them in the traditional style, they're able to achieve a fit and finish that's more in line with cars and phones than housing. He plans to build homes at a price that's affordable enough for first-time home buyers. With its compact footprint, the Kasita is designed to be transported and even stacked. That way, Kasita owners have a 'nomadic home', with their unit shipped from one city to the next, joining a stack or modular apartment building specially designed to house their units downtown.
